VIEWPOINT

A platform for Emerging Choreographers

An event conceptualised by Shruti Maria Datar  for emerging artists, dancers and choreographers to share their short pieces and/or works in progress. Viewpoint is proud to be the only crowdfunded platform in the city of Mumbai, truly made possible by the community's belief in the idea.

An evening of short performances not longer than 10-12 minutes followed by a voluntary QnA. Invested in the diversity of dance, Viewpoint aims to offer a space for artists involved in experimental forms of dance or performance to share their works with audiences and other artists or potential collaborators. It hopes to be a space to create, connect and perform and engage with the community. Showcasing new age performances that aim to push the boundaries and provide a new perspective to performance, to inspire a generation of thinkers and creators and hone them.

Mumbai has always been home of commercial ventures be it in industry, cinema or dance. Dance isn’t just for entertainment and showcasing superior physicality but also a mode for social change, putting forward pertinent questions and creating an experience for the audience. While Mumbai boasts of some of the best commercial dance schools and performances in the country we lack a space for unconventional and distinctive dance formats. While each type of performance has a space in the arts ecosystem, Viewpoint is born out of a need for an alternate perspective and shift in performance structures in the city.
